Her mother was my 1st grade teacher at Eva Elementary School, Eva, AL, at the time of the fire. Her mother took time off, of course, and our substitute teacher convinced us to be nice and sweet to her on her return, due to the tragic death of her daughter. I remember a sad return and never a mention to we children of what had happened. Here, some 66 years later, I am still remembering the dignified mother, and I hope I was always kind to her. Sarah Aldridge's mother was my first grade teacher at Eva Elementary School, Eva, Alabama, at the time of the Winecoff fire. Mrs. Aldridge took some time off, of course. Our substitute teacher cautioned us children to be kind to her on her return. Here some 66 years later, I remember Ms. Aldridge as being gracious and genuine as a teacher. I hope I was kind to her.
